Francis Xavier landed in Kagoshima and began Christian missionary work. Overseas exchange and changing religious and commercial conditions, beginning in southern Kyushu, also influenced the policies of regional lords.

Miyoshi Nagayoshi's forces and Hosokawa Harumoto's forces clashed at Sashima in Settsu. This is regarded as a prelude to the Battle of Eguchi in the sixth month of the same year.
