Province data
In the early Sengoku period, the province was divided among several clans, including the Ōgigayatsu-Uesugi, Ōmori, and Miura clans, but fell under the Later Hōjō clan's rule by 1516 following Ise Sōzui's (Hōjō Sōun's) invasion. Serving as the Later Hōjō clan's home province through five successive rulers—Ujitsuna, Ujiyasu, Ujimasa, and Ujinao—Sagami prospered with Odawara Castle as its stronghold and the center of Kantō dominance. Following the clan's collapse at the Siege of Odawara in 1590, the province was incorporated into Tokugawa Ieyasu's domain from 1591 onward.

7/19Death of Hōjō Ujitsuna and succession of Hōjō Ujiyasu
Hōjō Ujitsuna, who had led the Hōjō forces against the Imagawa during the Kawatō Disturbance, died. His son, Ujiyasu, succeeded him to become the third head of the Hōjō clan.

Tax Reform
As his domain expanded, Hōjō Ujiyasu reorganized various tax obligations and unified taxation on military service and related duties. This made the burden on subjects predictable and improved domain governance efficiency.

Establishment of the Odawara Hōjō Land Registry
Ujiyasu established the 'Odawara Hōjō Retainers' Land Registry', defining military service and construction obligations according to land holdings to establish a system of vassal mobilization. This brought the eighteen divisions under unified control.

Month 10Takeda Shingen Besieges Odawara Castle
Takeda Shingen led a large army to besiege Odawara Castle in Sagami. While withdrawing from the siege to return to Kai, his forces clashed with the Hōjō, resulting in the Battle of Mimase Pass.

As the Takeda army retreated toward Kai after lifting the siege of Odawara Castle, the Hōjō pursued them, resulting in a battle at Mimasaka Pass. According to Aikawa Town's account, the Hōjō initially had the upper hand, but when Yamamoto Kagesuke's unit launched a surprise attack from higher ground, the situation changed in favor of the Takeda, who ultimately won. Casualty figures of 3,269 for the Hōjō and 900 for the Takeda are presented, but these are traditional estimates provided by the town and not confirmed figures.

Death of Hōjō Ujiyasu
Hōjō Ujiyasu died. Ujimasa became independent from his father's regency and advanced Hōjō control over the Kantō region as the clan's new leader.

Ujimasa transferred headship to Ujinao with the Oda marriage arrangement as a condition. Ujimasa continued as regent under the title 'Goyashiro-sama' and exercised authority through the 'yū-kō' seal.

Hōjō Ujinao, recently restored to daimyō status, died shortly after. The Later Hōjō clan's tenure as a great power, spanning five generations and a century from Odawara, ended in 1590; Ujinao's early death prevented any restoration of the main family's rule.
