Tokugawa Retainer and Daimyo
本多忠勝
1548 – 1610
Born in Nuke County, Mikawa Province, he is said to have served Tokugawa Ieyasu as a retainer from Ieyasu's succession struggles through the Battle of Sekigahara. While many details of his specific roles in individual battles remain unconfirmed, he is known as a warrior who participated in numerous campaigns. Following Ieyasu's relocation to the Kantō in 1590, he became daimyo of Ōtotal Taaki domain with 100,000 koku and defended the Awa region. In 1601 he was transferred to Kuwana domain in Ise Province with 100,000 koku, where as the first Kuwana daimyo he directed the town layout and established the castle-town infrastructure. At Sekigahara he served as military supervisor for the Eastern Army and participated in pursuing the Shimazu Yoshihiro contingent.

Tokugawa commanderBetrayed by Azai Nagamasa at Kanegasaki, Oda Nobunaga marched into Omi with Tokugawa Ieyasu and met the Azai and Asakura at the Anegawa. The Oda and Tokugawa won the day but did not destroy the Azai.

Battle of Nagashino
Tokugawa commanderTakeda Katsuyori besieged Nagashino castle and was met by Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu at Shitaragahara. Palisades and firearms broke the Takeda charge, and Katsuyori lost many of his senior commanders.

Honda Tadakatsu Lords Over 100,000 koku at Ōtaki
Principal partyIn connection with relocation to Kantō, Tadakatsu was given command of Ōtaki in Kazusa Province with 100,000 koku and became its lord, remaining in residence for approximately eleven years until 1601.

Honda Tadakatsu Serves as Military Supervisor at Sekigahara
Principal partyTadakatsu participated as military supervisor of the Eastern Army, deploying west of Tsuzura Pond. In the afternoon he, along with Matsudaira Tadayoshi and Ii Naomasa, pursued the forces of Shimazu Yoshihiro.

Honda Tadakatsu Transferred to Kuwana, Ise
Principal partyTransferred from Ōtaki to Kuwana in Ise Province with 100,000 koku, Tadakatsu became the first daimyo of Kuwana. He oversaw development of the castle town through Keichō-era urban planning and established Kuwana's foundation.

Honda Tadakatsu Dies
Principal partyHonda Tadakatsu, daimyo of Kuwana, died and was buried at Jōdo-ji, where Honda Tadakatsu Honbyō (Main Mausoleum) was established. This occurred approximately nine years after he became daimyo.
