1567 – 1636
Born as the son of Daimyo Terumune of Yonezawa Castle in Dewa Province, Date Masamune succeeded to the headship at age 18 in 1584. He defeated the Ashina clan of Aizu and others in southern Mutsu to build his largest domain, but lost Aizu during the Ōu reorganization after his 1590 participation in the Odawara campaign, and was transferred to Iwadeyama in 1591. At the Battle of Sekigahara, he fought for the eastern forces and recaptured Shiraishi Castle, receiving an official seal from Tokugawa Ieyasu guaranteeing one million koku, though this was never realized. In 1601, he began construction of Sendai Castle and relocated his base there. In 1613, he sent the Keichō Embassy to Rome under Hasekura Tsunenaga. He died in Edo at age 70 in 1636, becoming the founder of Sendai domain with 620,000 koku.

Oshu daimyo whose holdings were reorganizedToyotomi Hideyoshi entered Aizu and settled the territories of the northern daimyō. Date Masamune lost Aizu, which was granted to Gamō Ujisato.

Osaka Summer Campaign
Commander of the Tokugawa force in the Dōmyōji sectorThe Toyotomi sortied from Osaka Castle, now bereft of its moat, to engage the Tokugawa forces, resulting in collisions in Kawachi. On May 6, Gotō Mototsugu fell at Dōmyōji and Tamateyama, and Kimura Shigenari at Yao and Wakae; on May 8, Osaka Castle fell, Hideyori and Yodo-dono took their own lives, and the Toyotomi main line was extinguished.

Summer Campaign of Osaka: Clash at Dōmyōji and Yao-Wakae
Tokugawa side; deployed toward DōmyōjiAt Dōmyōji and Tamateyama in Kawachi, Gotō Mototsugu engaged the Tokugawa forces. At Yao and Wakae, Kimura Shigenari and Chōsokabe Morichika also clashed with them. Both Mototsugu and Shigenari fell in battle.
