Oda's forces, including Shibata Katsuie, withdrew from their attempt to relieve Nanao Castle. Uesugi Kenshin pursued them across the swollen Tetorigawa and inflicted heavy losses on the Oda army. Diplomatic tensions in the Kai-Sagami Alliance also surfaced.
