Ashikaga Yoshiteru
足利義輝

Born in 1536 (Tenbun 5) as the son of Ashikaga Yoshiharu, the 12th shogun. He reportedly received the rank of Sei-i Taishogun at age 11 in 1546 (Tenbun 15) at Sakamoto in Ōmi. He came into conflict with Miyoshi Nagayoshi and fled to Ōmi, eventually achieving a peace settlement following the 1558 Battle of Kitashirakawa (Eiroku 1) and returning to Kyoto after five years. Upon his return to the capital, he dispatched letters of command to various daimyo including Uesugi Kenshin, Takeda Shingen, and Ōtomo Yoshishige, attempting to mediate conflicts and stabilize Kyoto politics. However, in 1565 (Eiroku 8), the Shōgun's residence was attacked by forces led by the Miyoshi Three and Matsunaga Hisatsugu (the Eiroku Rebellion), and after resisting, he was killed. He died at age 30.
