Burning of the Tōdai-ji Great Buddha Hall
Warfare between Miyoshi and Matsunaga brought fire into the Tōdai-ji compound, destroying much of the temple complex. The Great Buddha was also damaged, and its subsequent restoration proved extremely difficult.
