  12. Construction of Wakayama Castle and Appointment of Deputy

    After Hideyoshi's subjugation of Kii, Hidenaga had Wakayama Castle built on Tora Fushi Mountain under his orders. Tōdō Takatora served as construction magistrate, and after its completion Kuwayama Shigeharu, a retainer of Hidenaga, served as deputy, handling the practical administration of Kii.

  13. Tōdō Takatora Serves in Kii Campaign and Becomes Construction Magistrate

    Accompanying Hidenaga in the conquest of Kii, Takatori gained military renown and was promoted to 10,000 koku with a 5,400-koku increase, achieving daimyo rank. That same year, as Hidenaga had Wakayama Castle built while becoming lord of Kii, Takatori served as construction magistrate.

    Hōjō Ujinao Is Pardoned

    Hōjō Ujinao, exiled to Kōya-san, was pardoned by Toyotomi Hideyoshi and took the Buddhist name Kenshōsai to serve him as a restored daimyō.

    After being stripped of the office of kampaku and exiled to Mount Kōya, Toyotomi Hidetsugu was ordered by Toyotomi Hideyoshi to take his own life.

    Kuwayama Ichiharu Becomes Lord of Wakayama Castle

    After the Hidenaga house ended, Kuwayama Ichiharu, grandson of Kuwayama Shigeharu, inherited the position of lord of Wakayama Castle. Subsequently both Kuwayama Shigeharu and Ichiharu came to act as allies of the Eastern Army.

  25. Kuwayama Clan Sides with Eastern Army and Leaves Kii

    At the Battle of Sekigahara, the Kuwayama clan sided with the Eastern Army. After the war, Asano Yoshinaga, rewarded for Eastern Army service, entered Kii Province with 376,000 koku, and the Kuwayama clan lost its position as lords of Wakayama Castle.

    Sanada Masayuki and Nobushige Are Exiled to Kudoyama

    After surrendering Ueda Castle, Sanada Masayuki and Nobushige were exiled to Kudoyama below Mount Kōya in Kii Province.
